The Introduction

Jesus gives us a glimpse into the heart of God, the embodiment of love. Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit all dwell together. Through the Risen Christ, all of us who believe can join in their communion. Help others see what the Holy Spirit revealed to the first disciples – that we are never closer to God than when we build beloved communities.

The Scripture (John 15:12-13) Jesus the real vine

Jesus continued, “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t handle them now. But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is”.

The Reflection

To understand the Three in One is quite difficult. Saint Patrick suggested the shamrock with its three shapes that made one leaf. Clover is much the same. Others have suggested the human being as made up of body, mind and spirit: three parts that you cannot fully separate and yet one being.

You might like to think of the sun. You can see it in the sky and yet it is too bright to look at. In its glory you may like to compare the sun to God the Father. Even when the sun is hidden we know it is still there.

The sun provides the world with light. The light gives life to the world and in the light we can live and move. Let the light remind us of Jesus who is the Light of the World. Even on the dullest of days the sun still provides us with light.

The sun also provides us with warmth. Without the warmth the world would be cold and dead. In the warmth we grow and live. Let the warmth remind us of the Spirit.

Glory, light and warmth – we can talk of them as separate things and yet they are bound together. One would not exist without the other.

The Commissioning

May the love of God, wonderful creator, eternal sustainer, embrace you. May the love of Christ, instrument of compassion, advocate for justice, affirm you. May the love of the Holy Spirit, giver of courage, giver of hope, work with you.

Amen.
