St Anthony’s make a statement

Girl’s football report

The day did not start well for the Girl’s football team when the bus left them behind for more than 45 minutes. It unsettled the side and the girls lost their first game when they finally arrived.

The team won their next three games then lost the last game. The results meant that St Anthony’s qualified for the MPSSA2 where they had to play the team they lost to earlier in the day. Wedge Park came into the game undefeated and our girls would face them for premiership glory.

Before the grand final, Ni-Anna and Kiana competed in the Biggest Kick competition. Both girls gave it their all and Ni-Anna won the competition with a monster kick that was 20cm longer than her nearest rival.

The girls played exceptionally well all day but had saved their best game for the Grand Final. The team were up 8 – 0 at half time and were kicking with the wind. It was going to be a tough second half kicking into the wind. Wedge Park kicked a quick goal early so it was the girls job to stay in the lead.

St Anthony’s were tremendous in their fight to stay in front then the ball had transitioned from our kick out and we scored. The final siren sounded and St Anthony’s won, 14 points to 12.

Great job to all girls representing St Anthony’s Primary School.
