St Anthony’s Composting System

Year 3 Inquiry

Year 3 students have been working on a solution to the problem of providing the community garden with enough nutrients to grow supplies for our Breakfast Club and Cafe. We have decided to use compost!

We will be putting a bin with a lid in every classroom. Students and staff will put appropriate food scraps, such as banana peels, egg shells, vegetables, apple cores, etc., into the compost bin. Year 3 students will collect and empty them twice a week into the school compost bin in the community garden, layering with grown garden waste. When this decomposes into compost, we will spread it on the plants to help them grow.

We are looking forward to everyone’s support for this sustainable practice.
