Year 5
On Tuesday, 14th October, our Year 5 students embarked on an enriching excursion to Sovereign Hill as part of their investigation into the big question: “How has our history shaped the Australia we see today?”
Throughout the day, students immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on experiences that brought Australia’s colonial past to life. They watched a dramatic gold pour demonstration, explored the depths of the Red Hill Mine—conquering their fears underground—and participated in a thought-provoking education session focused on the treatment of Chinese migrants during the gold rush era.
These activities sparked curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking, helping students connect historical events to the diverse and multicultural Australia we know today.
As we continue our inquiry, this excursion serves as a powerful reminder that understanding our past is key to shaping a more inclusive and informed future.
