School Crossing Supervisor Safety Awareness Day

6th February 2026

School Crossing Supervisors play a vital role in keeping our school community safe, and we thank them for the care and dedication they show every day. We also take this opportunity to remind all road users to slow down and remain alert in school crossing areas.

This Friday, School Crossing Supervisors will wear a commemorative ribbon in honour of Brian Beach, who tragically lost his life while on duty at his Wodonga school crossing in February 2024. This gesture also acknowledges all current and former School Crossing Supervisors and recognises the important work they do to keep pedestrians safe.

In support of this awareness day, we kindly ask all members of our community to remember the following:

  • School crossings are for all pedestrians, not just students and young people.
  • School zone speed limits must always be obeyed. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and be prepared to stop safely in school areas.
  • Bicycles, scooters, and similar devices must be dismounted when using a school crossing.
  • Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to remove headphones or in-ear listening devices when crossing, so they can hear the supervisor’s whistle and surrounding traffic.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our School Crossing Supervisors and helping to keep our school community safe.
