Caritas Australia
The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. During Lent we encourage each of you to participate in Almsgiving. Almsgiving is when you voluntarily donate money or perform acts of service to those in need.
The theme of Project Compassion 2026 is ‘Unite Against Poverty’. This Lent, we are being asked to help vulnerable communities break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable futures.
As a school community every dollar we raise will bring hope and change to vulnerable families around the world.
This year students, teachers and families can help raise money for Project Compassion by bringing in coins to place in the donation boxes in the classroom each day or scanning the attached QR code that is also displayed on the many posters around the school to donate online via our St Anthony’s fundraising page.
Our Year 3 students will be participating in the ‘Big Water Walk’ challenge and many of our teachers will be walking 30 mins a day during Lent as part of the ‘Long Water Walk’ challenge. Both these events highlight the struggles those living in poverty face, having to walk 30 minutes a day to fill buckets of water and then carry the heavy buckets back to their communities.
