News from the Year 5 Classrooms

Year 5 students have recently been learning about and investigating length, perimeter and area.  They have been accurately measuring and drawing using rulers .  Students have seen what a millimetre (mm), centimetre (cm), metre (m) and kilometre (km) look like in real life. They also explored the tools they could and should use when measuring length. 5MW students chose to use the trundle wheel to measure the length and width of the basketball court and recorded their findings on Showbie.

Students have also explored the perimeter (outside of a shape) and area (inside) of regular shapes using materials such as cubes and tiles.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

If you start at Gate 1 outside our school and walk for 1 kilometre, where could you be?
Year 5LM will have the answer in next week’s newsletter.
