MPSSA Winter Senior Sports

Lightning Premiership

Last week, St Anthony’s year 6 boys and girls were invited to participate in the MPSSA Winter Senior Sports Lightning Premiership.

Netball

Girls team:
The girl’s team versed Heathdale Primary School, Melton South Primary School and Melton Primary School and won all their games convincingly. They went into the finals in first place and versed Eyrnebury Primary School (who were also undefeated). It was a close game in the first half, but Miss Conroy wouldn’t tell us the scores because she didn’t want us to be nervous. Eynesbury Primary School was very competitive and very good, but we ended up winning 12 goals to 2. We will go through to the next round.
Boys team:
The boy’s team versed Heathdale Primary School first and won 15 to 1, then they versed Melton South Primary School and won 12 to 5. In their last game, they faced Melton Primary School and won 21 to 6. The boy’s team was unstoppable and made it to the finals, where they versed Coburns Primary School. It was a really close game. St Anthony’s was down by 5 points in the first half, but rallied together to win by 2 goals in the end. Although they won all their games and finals, they finished third overall (due to percentage).

T-Ball

Girls team:
The girls t-ball team competed against 3 schools in the Lightning Premiership. The first school we played against was Heathdale Primary School, which unfortunately, we lost. Next, we played against Melton South Primary School, where we took the win. The last game we participated in was against Melton Primary School, where we unfortunately suffered another loss. We didn’t make it into the finals, but all the girls had a great time.

Boys team:
The boys had a strong start with 2 consecutive wins, first against Melton Primary School with a final score of 14 to 4, and then against Melton South Primary School with a final score of 13 to 9. Our final game was a close one but unfortunately, Heathdale Primary School managed to steal the win with a score of 9 to 3. As a team, we placed 6th overall and had a great day.

Football

On Friday the 26th, St.Anthony’s Primary School attended Arnolds Creek for the Mixed Football Lightning Premiership within the MPSSA 2 District.
The day was a great success both on and off the field.
Starting off the Round Robin games, we came up against Heathdale Primary School, where we went on to win 107 to 0, with standout performances by Jacob and Hunter, who both kicked four goals. The second game was played against Melton South Primary School, where we won our second game for the day 61 to 6.
Our last game of the Round Robin was against Melton Primary School, where we went on to make it three wins in a row with the scoreboard reading 57 to 0.
With three wins on the board, we moved onto the semi-finals where we came up against Coburn Primary School. We got off to an amazing start when we kicked the first four goals of the game. In the second half Coburn managed to kick two goals but it wasn’t enough as we won 28 to 14 and we were on our way to the GRAND FINAL!!
The Grand Final was very exciting for all students, as we got to play on the full field. Playing up against Wedge Park Primary School, who were also undefeated for the day, we knew it would be a battle. Unfortunately, the scoreboard didn’t reflect our amazing effort and we just fell short 19 to 11 and took home runners-up for the day, which we are very proud of.
We would like to thank Mr.Butera and Mr.Clark for coaching us and Ms.Telina for coming along and supporting us!
