International Day of Mathematics

14th March 2024

On Thursday 14th March we celebrated International Day of Mathematics.

International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration. Each year on March 14, countries around the globe celebrate mathematics by participating in math activities. This year’s theme was “Playing with Maths.” We celebrated here at St Anthony’s by holding a ‘guess the lollies in the jar’ competition for our students. We had around 400 students provide their estimate of how many lollies they thought were in the jar. Congratulations to the following students for having the closest estimate and winning the entire jar of lollies!

Juniors: Raina (1JC) – Raina’s guess was 83 and there were 86 lollies in the jar (only 3 off the correct total!)

Middles: Charlot (4KF) – Charlot’s guess was 379 and there were 396 lollies in the jar (only 17 off the correct total!)

Seniors: Joan (6LP) – Joan’s guess was 890 and there were 898 lollies in the jar (only 8 off the correct total!)

Very impressive estimating skills there!!
