Year 1
On Friday the 15th of May, our Year One students visited CERES as part of their Inquiry unit, “Why do people belong to places?”, focusing on Indigenous Perspectives.
During the excursion, students discovered how Indigenous people use various native plants for cooking—and even got to taste some leaves! A guided bushwalk helped us identify native Australian trees, after which we discussed the significance of Dreamtime stories and how Aboriginal communities traditionally share them around a campfire. The children had a wonderful time bringing one of these stories to life through dress-up and roleplay. Finally, we learned about the history and traditional uses of ochre paint, and the students loved using it to paint traditional symbols on their faces and arms.
