Auslan Flag
This week we had the Auslan Flag erected at the front of the school to show our connection to the TCL language program. St Anthony’s wanted to share with the community our support of the language and culture of the Deaf community.
The Deaf Flag is a special symbol for Deaf people around the world. It shows pride, unity, sign languages and equal rights. It was designed by Arnaud Balard, a Deafblind artist from France.
What do the hands mean?
- Two hands: The flag has two hands on top of each other. One hand is turquoise and the other is yellow.
- Reaching fingers: The fingers reach to the edges of the flag. This shows that sign languages are used all around the world.
What do the colours mean?
💙 Turquoise blue: Sign languages, Deaf culture, pride and unity.
💛 Yellow: Light, energy, hope and a bright future.
💙 Dark blue: The Earth, people and how we are all connected.
The National Week of Deaf People runs from September 21st -27th, St Anthony’s will celebrate this during week one of term 4.
