Specialist News

This term students across the school from Foundation to Yr 6 have been learning about agriculture.

Specifically looking into where our foods and fibres (clothing) come from, i.e. farm-to-fork or field-to-fashion.

Last week our Year 3 students engaged in testing a variety of natural and synthetic fabrics for durability. This was to see if they were buoyant, flammable, biodegradable, waterproof, strong or flexible.

Last week our Year 4 students enjoyed heading out to the garden to plant leafy greens, i.e. lettuce, peas, herbs, and potatoes in our school greenhouse. We discussed conditions that plants need to survive and compared local farming to mass production.

What you can do at home to help:

  • Invite your child to help cook healthy meals
  • Discuss where and how food/fibres are grown
  • Discuss seasons and weather patterns
  • Look into where food/clothing comes from and aim to purchase more locally grown products to assist sustainability and reduce pollution
  • Remind your child of the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle ♻️
