St Vincent de Paul Society Welfare Assistance The St Vincent de Paul Society offers services that help people in need. This service is free and confidential. To receive assistance call 1800 305 330 – on providing your postcode you will be redirected to the nearest call centre. Monday-Friday 10.00am-3.00pm (most metropolitan locations) except public holidays.
The Salvation Army Welfare Assistance Services include Aged Care, Asylum Refugee Services, Family Assistance, Finding Employment, Housing, Youth Services, etc. Ph: 13 SALVOS (13 72 58)
Good Shepherd Support services for women, girls and families Good Shepherd is a not-for-profit that specifically supports women, girls and families. Their services include: no interest loans, financial services, child and youth education programs, and family counselling. Ph: 03 9495 9600
Royal Children’s Hospital Paediatrician RCH provides this as a free service. There is a wait list. Patient Advocate: 03 9345 5522. The GP can send the referral letter to General Medicine. Enquiries can be sent to: enquiries.genmed@rch.org.au

CatholicCare Family Wellbeing Support Services These services are free for children and teenagers up to 18 years, and parents for up to 12 months. They also offer up to 4 group sessions with 8-10 children. There will be an intake meeting. Parent sessions can take place at their home or onsite. They can self refer or the school can refer. Programs include:

  • Stress Busters! This program helps primary school aged children to understand and manage their anxietyand anger. (Four-week program, Melton & Shepparton).
  • DRUMBEAT is a group program for children aged 10-14, using hand drumming to explore topics such as peer pressure, bullying, emotions, identity, belonging, social responsibility and teamwork. The program increases confidence and self-esteem, and helps participantsbuild positive relationships with their peers, family and community. (Ten-week program).
  • Seasons for Growth is an education program for children, young people or adults who have experienced significant change or loss. It is led by trained Companions and can be run in schools, parishes and community and health care settings. (Six-week program).
  • The Girls Resilience program assists girls to build resilience in their every day lives. The program helps to build respectful relationships, increase self-confidence and self-esteem, knowledge of self-care and mental health. (Eight-week program, Ballarat & Mildura).
  • The Emotikids program teaches kids how to deal with strong emotions from an early age and can help to prevent or mitigate mental health issues, and enable kids to identify when they need support. The Emotikids program runs every school term, and is aimed at 5-7-year-old children who are showing signs of increased worry or anger. (Six-week program, Melton & Shepparton).

headspace Online and phone counselling service headspace is an anonymous, confidential and free mental health support for young people and their family.
They provide early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.

MensLine Counselling service for men MensLine Australia is a free telephone and online counselling service offering support for Australian men anywhere, anytime. Ph: 1300 789 978
CatholicCare Counselling – Individual and Relationship Consession card holders for individuals = $20 and adult individual full fee = $50; Relationship counselling with consession card = $20 and full fee = $100. The Orange Door Family Support Service Sometimes when things at home or in a relationship are not OK, or families are worried about the wellbeing of their children, The Orange Door can help you get the support you need, quickly and easily. Child protection – DFFH Services Child protection service The Victorian Child Protection Service is specifically targeted to support those children and young people at risk of harm. West Division: 1300 360 462.
