Pilgrims of Hope

Year 6 Classroom News

Catholic Mission Australia is the Pope’s international mission agency, who respond to the call to love God and to love our neighbour by forming individuals and communities as missionary disciples of Jesus who share their faith in action and through prayer.

As part of their Religion, the Year 6 students have been learning about the work of Catholic Mission Australia. They read about Awer Mabil’s experience in a Kenyan Refugee Camp, and how the children would make soccer balls from plastic wrappers, bags and balloons. They also learned about the incredible work he has been doing since moving to Australia to support his community in Kenya.

Inspired by Awer’s story, the Year 6 students have been collecting their own wrappers for the past week and have worked in groups to create their own soccer balls. They took them outside to play, then reflected on how God was present in Awer’s story. The students also reflected on how, as Pilgrims of Hope, we can support Awer’s efforts to create a better world.
